OK - so we've all seen those wonderful photos of celebrities at events like the Oscars or Academy Awards - but do you have any idea just how much effort and preparation has gone into making them look SO perfect?

Most stars will have their own hair stylist and preparation is likely to start weeks before, with time spent on boosting condition of the hair with conditioning treatments - ready to step out of their limos looking elegant and stylish for the big day itself.

Whilst most of us will be in awe of the wonderful dresses and evening gowns that the stars are wearing, the right hairstyles are essential to make the most of the gowns for this formal and prestigious occasion.

Oscars® 2007

Whilst updos have often been order of the day for events such as this, loose flowing hair was really popular for the 2007 Oscars ®, held in February.

Beyonce chose to wear a stunning Georgio Armani gown complemented by her long, long hair with just a hint of curl.

Nicole Kidman wore a stunning red Balenciaga dress with her hair worn loosely to set it off perfectly.

Kate Blanchett chose a more formal style with a traditional up-do for her beautiful blonde locks.

Kate Winslett wore a simple Valentino gown with a cross-over style at the front, with her hair swept up in a simple yet elegant up-do style.

Meryl Streep, recently seen in "The Devils Wears Prada", wore Prada, of course, with her hair styled up, with a slightly casual air.

What's new for 2008?

We're seeing increasingly that the more relaxed look is coming back.

Expect to see more of the half-up, half-down styles that are so popular in the magazines at present.
